Netiquette:
When replying to or sending out an electronic message via the internet, it is a good idea to remember the following checklist of netiquette rules.
Even if the e-mail is a simple message between friends, e-mail should not be treated differently than any other form of correspondence. The writer should be: courtesy, understanding, and knowledgeable.
As you compose your electronic mail, keep the following tips in mind.
· Keep the message to the point
· Be polite and courteous; words can hurt even when written.
· Do not use all CAPS! It gives the impression that you are yelling at your
reader.
· Be knowledgeable. If you were asked to respond to questions, research your
answers beforehand.
· Netiquette is an electronic form of etiquette, or mannerism. Keep this in mind...
· Judge carefully. Many times you may be replying to a person you have
never met. Do not offend them.
· Follow your morals.
· One more checklist rule, e-mail is NOT a alternative to human communication.
The checklist provided will assist you with e-mail preparation and responses. For further ideas and definitions of netiquette, consult Netiquette.
